Now that's what we call a jet-set accessory: a
contraption that washes your hair. Not impressed?
Then imagine this, no more chitchat with the salon
trainees ever again
Predictably it is the Japanese who conceived of
the idea of an automated hair-washer and then spent
£1.2m developing the concept into something
practical. Now it has arrived on these shores -
earlier this month, the Aqua Vibro, it made its
UK debut at the Stuart Phillips salon in London's
Covent Garden.
There is something peculiar about unconditionally
giving your head over to a machine. The motorised
E'sy Shampoo Chair tilts you back into a horizontal
position. Then the cover closes. At this point it's
more akin to an MRI scan than a shampoo. But then
the water starts up and it doesn't feel as creepy.
In face, it feels positively delightful, as 10 nozzles
begin pre-programmed movements to cleanse the hair
down to the roots. Rhythmic pulses of water massage
the scalp from the temple down to the crown (with
five settings from very soft to firm and invigorating),
tempting you to stay in there forever. The whole
procedure takes about four minutes. Unfortunately,
there are no mechanical hands, but you can use it
with your favourite products as it takes any shampoo
or conditioner.
Apart from providing a very efficient wash, it
is designed for over-stretched salons or hotels
that don't have the hands available for washing.
It also means that apprentices don't have to spend
the first six months leaning over a sink, and can
get on with learning how to cut hair (presumably,
that is, until the styling robot arrives).
Oh, by the way, for anyone who fancies having the
device in their home, it comes in a range of colours
and costs the same as decent sloon car.
